Why a form would reject a "too small" file

Most forms cap a maximum size, but a few โ€” particularly ones that want to be sure a photo wasn't compressed into illegibility โ€” set a minimum too. This tool works in the opposite direction from our compressors: it raises JPEG quality to its maximum first, and if the file is still under your target after that, it gently upscales the photo's pixel dimensions and re-encodes, which increases file size without artificially padding the file with meaningless data.

How to use Increase Image Size in KB

  1. Click the upload area and choose the photo you need to shrink (or set your own target if the page has a target-size field).
  2. Wait a moment while the tool tries different quality levels to find the best result under your limit.
  3. Check the before/after preview and file size shown on screen.
  4. Press the download button to save the compressed file to your device.

โ“ Frequently asked questions

Do I need to install anything to use this?

No โ€” everything runs directly in your browser using standard web technology; there's nothing to download or install.

Will this work on my phone?

Yes โ€” the tool works on any modern mobile browser the same way it does on desktop.

Does this actually improve my photo's quality, or just inflate the file size?

It does both to a degree โ€” raising JPEG quality reduces compression artefacts, and any dimension increase uses genuine smooth upscaling rather than junk padding, though it can't add detail that wasn't captured originally.

What if my original photo is extremely small (like a thumbnail)?

The tool can upscale a few times to reach your target, but a very small starting photo will show some softness after significant enlargement โ€” there's a practical limit to how much a small source image can grow while still looking reasonable.

Is this the opposite of the compression tools on this site?

Yes โ€” compression tools aim for a maximum size ceiling, while this tool aims for a minimum size floor.
